01
Remove the water
Lay the piece on a clean towel, roll the towel and press gently. Do not wring or twist. For padded cups, reshape them while damp so they dry in the right shape.
02
Dry flat
Lay the piece flat on a rack or a dry towel in the shade. Avoid radiators, direct sun and the tumble dryer. Hanging a wet bra by the straps stretches them; if you must hang, use the centre gore.
03
Press, do not wring
Lay the piece on a clean towel, roll the towel and press gently. Do not twist or wring. For padded cups, reshape them while damp so they dry in the right shape. A salad spinner is not a substitute; it can distort the cups.
04
Padded cups
Press the cup back into shape with your hand and dry it cup-up. Do not stack other pieces on top. If the cup creases, a little steam can help after it is dry.
05
Humidity and travel
In a humid room, place the piece near a fan or an open window, not on a radiator. When travelling, roll the piece in a towel and dry it flat overnight. Do not pack it damp.
06
Elastic care
Heat and hanging damage elastic. Dry flat and store folded. If the elastic feels loose after drying, it may have been exposed to too much heat. Replace the piece if it no longer recovers.
07
When it is dry
Store the piece flat or folded, away from hooks and jewellery. Do not leave it on a hanger for weeks. A drawer divider or a cloth bag protects lace and straps.
08
The towel method
Roll the piece in a clean towel and press gently. Do not twist. This removes most of the water without distorting the shape. Change the towel if it is soaked.
09
A drying rack
A flat rack with mesh is ideal. Lay the piece flat and reshape it. If you use a hanger, clip it at the band, not the straps.
10
Travel
Roll the piece in a towel and dry it flat overnight. Do not pack it damp. A small travel fan can help in a humid room.
11
Elastic
Keep elastic away from heat. Dry flat and store folded. If the elastic feels loose, it may have been damaged by heat or hanging.
12
No heat
Heat damages elastic and can shrink mesh. Keep the piece away from radiators, direct sun and the tumble dryer. Air-dry at room temperature.
13
Airflow
A flat rack with mesh allows air to move. If the room is humid, use a fan. Do not dry in a closed bathroom.
14
Cups
Reshape padded cups while damp and dry them cup-up. Do not stack other pieces on top.
15
Straps
Do not hang a wet bra by the straps. If you must hang, clip the band. Hanging stretches the straps.
16
Storage
Store flat or folded when dry. Do not leave the piece on a hanger for weeks.
17
A drying checklist
Press the water out in a towel, reshape the cups and lay the piece flat in the shade. Keep it away from heat, direct sun and the tumble dryer. Check the straps and the band before storing. If the piece is still damp, leave it flat; do not hang it by the straps.
18
A final note
Drying is part of care, not an afterthought. Heat and hanging damage elastic, cups and lace. Press the water out, reshape and dry flat in the shade. A piece that is dried properly keeps its fit and lasts longer. If you are in a hurry, a fan is better than a radiator.
