01

Pack for the evening you will actually have

Before you pack, picture the trip: how many nights, how much privacy, how tired you will be. A city break with a shared bathroom needs different pieces from a cabin with a wood stove. Choose for the real room, not the fantasy suite. One piece that fits the trip is worth more than four that assume a different holiday. Check the weather and the room photos before you decide; a cabin and a city hotel ask for different pieces.

02

Fabric and folding

Mesh, light lace and satin travel better than stiff corsetry. Roll rather than fold to avoid hard creases, and put delicate pieces in a cloth bag so hooks do not catch on other clothes. A slip packs almost flat. If you bring stockings, keep them in their own pouch. Leave the heavily boned piece at home unless the trip has a specific occasion for it. A fabric bag also keeps lace away from zips and buttons in transit.

03

How many pieces

Two or three is enough for most trips: one easy piece for a tired night, one for the evening you planned, and one backup you already know fits. Add a robe if you are sharing a room with other people. Resist the urge to pack the whole drawer. Unworn lingerie takes up space and adds decisions you do not need on holiday. If you are unsure, pack one fewer piece and one more layer.

04

Privacy in a shared room

If you are staying with friends or family, pack something that doubles as sleepwear and a robe that covers you between the bathroom and the bed. Keep delicate items in a small bag rather than loose in a shared suitcase. Agree with your partner about noise and timing. Privacy on a trip is often a matter of small logistics rather than a private room. A sleep mask and earplugs help more than a complicated routine when other people are nearby.

05

The return trip

Do not put worn lingerie back in the case with clean clothes. Bring a separate laundry bag, rinse delicate pieces in cool water where possible and let them dry flat. Check the care label before you travel. On the last morning, do a quick inventory so nothing is left in a drawer. Coming home organised makes the next trip easier to plan. Photograph the packed bag before you leave, so you know what should come home.
