How do you run a police roleplay scene safely?
The whole appeal is borrowed authority, so the stop signal comes before the first line.

Authority scenes need the clearest agreements of any roleplay, because the whole appeal is the pretence of control; Lace Index stocks roleplay costumes and lingerie in S–3XL, with selected 4XL, shipped in plain packaging. The character is an adult officer, the situation is invented, and the real power stays with both of you. Below is a short dialogue structure, with the stop signal built in before the first line rather than added at the end.

01
The premise in one line
Pick something small and slightly absurd: a parking matter, a noise complaint, a missing item. The officer arrives to ask questions. Keep the stakes low, because the scene is about tone, not plot. Agree on the one line that sums it up, and agree that nobody is actually in trouble at any point. Write the line down if you like, and keep it somewhere you can both see it during the scene. Keep the props to one; a notebook is enough.
02
Opening exchange
Knock, identify the character, ask to come in. The other person invites them across the threshold, which is the first consent beat of the scene. Use a formal voice and short sentences. Let the questions be mundane. The uniform does the rest, so resist the urge to explain the premise out loud. Use the person's name once, formally, and then not again; the restraint does more than a raised voice.
03
The stop signal
Choose a word that cannot appear in the scene and say it clearly if you need to. Add a second, softer signal for slowing down: a hand on the chest, a plain question, a step back. The officer character must respond immediately and visibly, in character if possible. A scene that stops well is a scene you can trust again. Practice the stop once, out loud, before the costume goes on, so neither of you has to think about it later.
04
Reading the room
Watch for the difference between nervous laughter and actual discomfort. Ask a direct question every few minutes, even if it breaks the spell. Keep the doorway clear and the costume easy to remove. If either of you is performing rather than playing, end it. The authority only works while it is clearly borrowed. If the room goes quiet in the wrong way, stop asking questions and say something ordinary instead. A glass of water is a good excuse to break the frame.
05
Closing the scene
End with a line that closes the case. Then take off the costume before you talk. Water, light, ordinary voices. Ask what felt good and what felt like too much, and write down the answer. Aftercare is not an extra step; it is how the next scene gets to happen. Put the costume away before the conversation gets long; the uniform on the floor makes it harder to speak plainly.

Questions
Quick answers.
How do you run a police roleplay scene safely?
Is a police roleplay about real authority?+
No. The officer is a character and both people keep real control throughout.
What stop signal should we use?+
Pick an unusual word plus a physical signal for slowing down, and agree both before the scene.
Can we stop in the middle?+
Yes, at any moment. Stopping is part of the agreement, not a failure of the scene.
Still unsure?
