The goal is not a perfect performance. It is a shared game that lets you see each other differently. Think of it as a recipe with four ingredients: a character, a costume, a setting and a clear way to stop.

01

Ingredient 1: a simple character

Choose one archetype rather than a complex backstory: a maid, a nurse, a secretary or a bunny. A simple character is easier to hold in your head and easier to drop if it stops being fun. Agree on the character together and decide how much acting you both want. The costume supports the character; it does not have to carry it.

02

Ingredient 2: a costume that fits

A roleplay piece should fit well enough that you can move and forget about it. Check the size list and the included accessories before ordering. A stretch mesh set is more forgiving than a structured dress. If the costume is uncomfortable, the character becomes a distraction. Choose one focal detail, such as an apron, a cap or a collar, rather than five props.

03

Ingredient 3: a setting

A change of room or lighting helps the game feel different. Put the clothes away, lower the light, and keep the props in one place. A hotel or a staycation does this automatically; at home, a clean room and a closed door can be enough. The setting signals that this is a separate time, not the usual evening.

04

Ingredient 4: a way to stop

Agree on a word or phrase that means stop, and use it without judgment. Check in during the scene, especially if the character involves power or authority. A roleplay that cannot be stopped is not playful. The stop signal should be easy to say and easy to hear. If either person uses it, the scene ends and you return to being yourselves.

05

The point

The point of roleplay is not to become someone else permanently. It is to create a small shared world and then come back. The intimacy comes from the collaboration: choosing together, being silly together and trusting each other enough to stop. A costume can start the game, but the connection is what makes it worth repeating.

06

The first five minutes

The first five minutes are usually the most awkward, so give the scene a simple opening: a knock at the door, a question or a drink. A small action gives both people something to do and breaks the silence. Do not wait for the perfect line. Once the first minute passes, the game usually settles. If it does not, simplify the scene.
