A secretary character is less about the costume and more about competence; Lace Index stocks roleplay costumes and lingerie in S–3XL, with selected 4XL, shipped in plain packaging. The file below is a way to build someone specific: a name, a role, a way of speaking and a reason to be in the room after hours. Both characters are adults, the office is imaginary, and the file closes the moment either of you wants it to.

01

Name and role

Give the character a name and a job that is not yours. Executive assistant, archivist, night-shift receptionist. Decide who has the authority and who is pretending not to. The interesting part of an office scene is the gap between professional politeness and what is actually being said, so keep the job dull and the subtext clear. The role should be specific enough to play and dull enough that nobody has to research it before the evening.

02

Wardrobe notes

A cami slip dress, a bodysuit under a blazer, or a cami and shorts set reads as office wear once it is styled. Keep one formal layer: a jacket, a cardigan, a watch. Stockings make the character feel deliberate. Check that you can sit, cross your legs and reach across a desk without adjusting anything. Keep the shoes on for the first part of the night; they change how you stand and how the character moves.

03

Voice and manner

Practice three lines: a greeting, a correction and a question that is really an invitation. Keep the voice lower and slower than usual. Small mannerisms do more than a full accent: straightening a cuff, closing a folder, taking a note. Choose one and repeat it until it feels natural. Write the three lines on a card if you are nervous, then put the card in the desk drawer once the scene starts.

04

The office set

A desk, a lamp and a chair are enough. Turn the overhead light off. Put a notebook and a pen within reach and keep the phone out of the room. If you have a blazer, hang it where it can be removed slowly. The set should feel like a place with rules, because the rules are the scene. A closed door and a chair pulled out from the desk are the only staging the scene really needs, and a clear floor keeps the office from feeling like a storage room.

05

Where the file ends

Write the limits into the file: what the character may say, what they may not, and the word that ends the scene. Authority play is only fun when it is obviously borrowed. Step out of character before you talk about how it went, and leave the office voice at the desk. If the character says something that lands badly, drop the voice immediately and answer as yourself. The file is a game, not a contract.

A slip dress, bodysuit or cami set with one formal layer such as a blazer.
