Case 1: the hip is tight
If the leg opening cuts in but the torso is fine, the size is too small at the hip. Size up or choose a different cut, and check whether a high-cut leg or a classic cut suits you better. Do not size down to make the torso closer, because that will make the hip worse. A stretch mesh is more forgiving than a rigid lace at the leg opening, so check the fabric too.

Case 2: the torso is short
If the shoulder pulls or the base rides up, the torso is short for your body. Size up or choose a style with more stretch through the torso, and check the shoulder-to-crotch measurement if it is listed. A crotchless opening does not fix a short torso, because the base still has to sit in the right place. Between sizes, take the larger and adjust the straps.

Case 3: the bust is fuller
If the cups spill but the band is level, the cup is too small rather than the whole piece. A lined cup and a wider band support more, and a style with adjustable straps is easier to fit. Check the underbust and the cup, not only the dress size, because a bodysuit can be cut for a different bust proportion. If the band rides up at the back, it is too loose.

Lining and coverage
A lined front or cup gives more coverage and a smoother line, while a single sheer layer is more revealing. Check the photos in daylight and read the fabric notes, because sheer mesh varies a lot in density. If you want a smooth line under clothes, choose a lined style with flat seams. If the piece is for the bedroom, an unlined sheer layer may be the point.
